We checked in to the Bowron Lake Park Registration and Visitor Centre and sat through a mandatory safety brief.
After the briefing, the rangers weighed our bags and tagged our canoes. We were allowed a max of 60 pounds of gear in each canoe during portage. And to make it easy for rangers to see if we here cheating, they listed the number and color of each bag that were allowed in the canoe. Any extra gear would need to be carried on our backs.
Both Black and Grizzly Bears live in the Bowron Circuit. There is plenty of food for them in the forest, but if we leave food out, they can come into our camps and fight us for it.
Each campsite had food lockers, which made it easy for us to lock up food.
The Canadians were also big on Wilderness Ethics. Speakers and loud noises were forbidden. Individual sites needed to be shared and any bullies were to be reported. Since were were in designated group sites, we didn't share our camps with others, which was good and bad.

Engraved wood map shows the location of campsites, shelters, cabins, radios, Ranger stations, and portage points.
The "W" designates where firewood can be found. Since there was a fire ban in effect, these sites were empty.
Although campfires were banned, you can still use the wood stoves located in the cabins.
There is no cell service in Bowron and only WIFI at the Visitor Centre and Becker's Lodge.
If we have an emergency, we can use our Satellite Messenger or one of the 6 emergency radio-phones to contact the Rangers.
The path ahead is leads us to the Bowron Lake Park Registration and Visitor Centre and is the beginning of the Bowron Lakes Canoes Circuit.
Important signs to watch for.
The short white markers designated regular campsites - which we used for navigation.
The short orange markers marked the group site we would stay at.
The long orange markers helped you stay on course in some of the marshes where you could easily go in the wrong direction.
Our canoes lined up early in the morning, almost ready to go.
Canoe with fat tired carts ready to go.
Gear in excess of 60 pounds per canoe would be carried in backpacks during portages.
