Intersection

Intersection is an advanced navigation technique used to determine an unknow location by using your compass to find the azimuth to from multiple known locations.

This is used for:

Technique is very similar to Resection.  Instead of using a Back Azimuth to a known point or points, you use your compass to find an azimuth to your target.

This can be done using multiple teams at different locations or by recording azimuths from different know locations.

No Compass Intersection Technique

It is possible to use a map and a straight edge to determine an unknow location from multiple known locations without a compass.  This technique is NOT ideal.

Find a distant know location (such as a hill top or building) and place yourself so that the unknown location you are trying to pinpoint is between the distant known location and a point you can locate on a map.  Draw a line on your map connecting your location and the distant known location.

Move to another point where you are able place the unknown location between you and a second distant known location.  Draw a line on the map connecting your location and the distant location.

Where the lines intersect is in the vicinity of where the unknown location you trying to pinpoint is.
