Climbing Training

Our Adult Leaders have a diverse set of skills.  This enhances our Scouts' experience in Scouting and allows us to do some pretty fun activities and events.

Adults should consider taking any of the following courses that interests them or will better prepare them to particiapte in or plan a future outing.  The more skilled and trained adults we have, the more activities our Scouts can participate in.

Climb On Safely

Climb On Safely is the Boy Scouts of America’s procedure for organizing BSA climbing/rappelling activities at a natural site or a specifically designed facility such as a climbing wall or tower.

All unit-sponsored/planned climbing activities, regardless of where they are held, fall under Climb On Safely. This applies to a single unit or multiple units that may be participating in a joint unit climbing activity.

Tour leaders are responsible for making sure all points of Climb On Safely are followed. Unit committee chairs and local councils must ensure that an adult on the tour has taken Climb On Safely training.

COPE Training

COPE—Challenging Outdoor Personal Experiences—is a Scouting program that includes group initiative games, trust events, and challenges that reach from the ground to the sky.

Want to use the Climbing Tower at Fire Mountain or Camp Pigott?  We need a COPE Level 1 and COPE Level 2 Instructor to operate these facilities.

Cave Safely Cave Softly – Learn before you go.  Caving can be an exciting unit activity, but requires knowledge and preparation.  This guide can help. For more information refer to the NSS Guide to Responsible Caving

Canyoneering Safely – Another exciting adventure for units prepared with the right knowledge and equipment.  This guide will help in that preparation and keep Scouts and leaders safe.

Climbing Merit Badge

Climbing is not a sport that requires tremendous muscular strength, it demands mental toughness and the willingness to practice hard to master a set of skills. The adventure of climbing can also provide a new way to enjoy the outdoors.
