Some members of Troop 60 helped the Nisei Vets post flags at the burial site of Japanese American Vets at Washelli cemetery.
Toshio Tokunaga was a Scoutmaster with a long history of supporting our Scouts. We are sad of his recent passing.
Corporal Tosh Tokunaga served in the 442nd Infantry Regiment, which was a very famous segregated, Japanese only unit. He later served with 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment and 82nd Airborne. Only a handful of Japanese were fought as paratroopers during the war, and there was plenty of anti-Japanese sentiment in the US and US Armed Forces. Jumping out of airplanes and fighting Nazis was hard enough, but being the only Japanese American in a US unit had its own challenges.
Scoutmaster Tokunaga never talked about his time in the service and we only heard the details of his service after his passing. He was a decorated hero for the United States and will always be a hero to all of us for who he was and what he did for Scouting.
Scouts were awarded a NVC coin for participating in today's events.
Doughnuts too!
