The BSA and Troop 60 are big on Training. We have highly skilled and trained adult staff and are enthusiastic about getting our Scouts trained up.
Den Chief Training

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
The purpose to teach Scouts with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role
An Online/Virtual version was available through my.scouting.org but has been suspended
Troop 60 conducts ILST for all youth leaders twice a year, following elections
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops
Our troop has helped run this program in the past - graduates for Wood Badge (adults) and NYLT (youth) can help staff future courses
NYLT is generally offered in July and August of each year by the Mount Baker Council and Chief of Seattle Council
National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE)
An exciting program that enhances leadership skills and expands upon the team-building and ethical decision-making skills learned in NYLT.
NYLT Leadership Academy
The NYLT Leadership Academy trains youth staff to be top-notch presenters, evaluators, and leaders of their councils’ National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) courses
NLS National Leadership Seminar
Order of the Arrow Leadership Program
Friday through Sunday program focuses on leadership styles and how to work through conflicts

We encourage all older scouts attend this course

Wilderness Survival and Bushcraft
Not an official BSA course
Learn basic and advanced survival techniques
We will also cover requirements for the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge
We have specially trained instructors in our Troop if you are interested
Hazardous Weather
Hazardous Weather training must be completed by Direct Contact Leaders to be considered position trained
Training will give you a better understanding of weather and how it impacts outings
Scouts BSA has many Adventure Opportunities and train up is often encouraged or required.
Leave No Trace
There are various levels of LNT
The Council LNT trainer is in our Troop and can set you up with training

Kodiak Challenge
The Kodiak Challenge is designed to be an adventure that pushes the boundaries of every participant – one that will encourage you to try new things that may be out of your comfort zone
It is an experience—but one that has its underpinnings in the application of the leadership skills they learned in the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops or Crews, NYLT, and/or NAYLE. It is, as is all of Scouting, an adventure with a purpose
Powder Horn
Open to both registered adults and youth who are at least 13 and have completed the 8th grade
Powder Horn is a hands-on resource management course designed to give you the contacts and tools necessary to conduct an awesome high-adventure program in your troop, team, crew, or ship

Many Scouts and Adults in Troop 60 enjoy Shooting Sports. If you are extra enthusiastic, you can take shooting course to enhance your shooting skills or even become a Shooting Sports Instructor.
NRA Basic Rifle and NRA Basic Shotgun
Learn how to operate and maintain a Rifle or Shotgun
Training available on a monthly basis, except in the summer
These courses will help you fulfill the requirements for the Rifle and Shotgun Merit Badges
Required training to become an NRA instructor in those disciplines
NRA Rifle Instructor and NRA Shotgun Instructor
Youth age 13-17 may attend Instructor Courses to become a NRA Apprentice Instructors
Scouts age 15-17 may attend Coach School to become NRA Junior Trainers
