"The Knife of a Thousand Uses"Â
The "Swiss Army Knife" has a long and rich history. They were made for Swiss soldiers starting in 1886. In 1891, soldier knives were made with a blade, reamer, screwdriver, and can opener. This classic design was manufactured by many companies and the original Official Scout Knives came with same toolset.
Referred to as "The Knife of a Thousand Uses", the Boy Scout Knife can be used in so many way. Unfortunately, the last US manufacturers making this knife went out of business in 2007 and newer Official Scout Knives are made in China and the quality just doesn't seem the same.
Quality knives are still manufactured by Victorinox in Switzerland. They have many different models, to include ones designed after the original Soldier's Knife.
Scout Knife discussion can be found on our Scout Folding Knives Page.
Shown here is a Victorinox Farmer Alox. It is very similar to the Original Scout Knives but has the addition of a saw. It is hard to beat the utility of this this knife in Scouting.Â
