Troop 60 had an excellent overnighter on Kachess Island. This required a early arrival time on a Friday to beat the rush. Katchess Campground was already full and a we followed a line of cars to camp. With is being a holiday weekend and forecasted beautiful weather, we weren't sure if there would be any place to camp. At the boat launch, there were several other canoes packing up and heading out for an awesome canoeing campout. Across from the launch was the main canoeing camp area and we could already see campfire smoke from those who arrived before us.
After a short journey to Kachess Island, we were pleasantly surprised to find it empty. As we set up our camp on the island, several canoe crews paddled past us looking for a place to camp. Looks like we got pretty lucky and waking up early on a Friday was worth it.
Luck was in our favor as we got the island to ourselves and didn't have to share it with anyone else this weekend. The weather was also exceptionally wonderful with few clouds and no smoke.
It was great getting out and we are better prepared for our big High Adventure Trip in August.
