A big part of "Be Prepared" is having the proper gear. And to be safe on Scouting Outings, it is vital that Scouts have the proper and functional gear.
For most overnight outdoor experiences, Scouts will need the following:
Sleeping bag
Sleeping pad
Good hiking boots/shoes
Water bottle
Mess kit
Flashlight
Warm clothes and rain gear
Daypack for single day outings
Backpack for overnighters
If you don't have these, talk to your Scoutmaster or Quartermaster. We can share advice on what to purchase or see if we have something in our gear locker.
Other gear will also be needed, depending on the type of outing your Scout will be going on. Some of this may be provided by the troop.
These generic lists provides a baseline of what is needed per event type.
