There are two main Troops in Edmonds. These are great units with their own personalities. That said, several Scouts from Edmonds, to include some of our key leadership, have transitioned to Troop 60 because it is a better fit for them.
Choose Troop 60 if you want a Scout-Led program popularized by the founder of Scouting, Baden Powel. Our Scouts plan out the annual schedule and run the monthly program. This allows them to develop leadership, organizational and planning skills. This is the way Scouting is supposed to work and it works well in our unit. And it shows as our Scout Led boys thrive in our Troop and get so much more out of Scouting than their Eagle Scout rank.
Our Scouts work as a team and tend to have a lot of fun at both meetings and outings. Scout Led also means that Scouts choose, plan out and go on what they think are fun adventures. And this is one of the main reasons why they choose to stick around.
For our Scouts, rank advancement comes from experiential learning in the outdoors and via older Scouts teaching younger Scouts important skills. Scouts learn not only from older Scouts but learn by teachings other Scouts. And if Scouts are interested in advancing to Eagle, we have the merit badge counselors, coaches and resources to help our Scouts advance. Some Scouts will hold off until age 17 to complete their Eagle Scout Rank, while others will choose a more accelerated path and have achieved the Eagle Scout rank as early as age 13 and with over a 100 merit badges!
So, if you are self motivated and like to go on adventures and have fun at meetings, check out Troop 60. It might be the best thing since cargo pants.
