Camp Bogardus is NOT an offical BSA Scout Camp, but has many of the facilities one would expect at Scout Camp. It is remote, found on San Juan Island. It also lacks electricity and running water. The host refills 5-gallon jugs, but if the troop is visiting, we should plan on packing a few 5-gallon containers to avoid running out of water.
Camp Bogardus is owned and maintained by Troop 4090. It is a hidden away Scout Camp that has been used by many Troops over the years. Behind camp is a NPS trail that leads right to the English Camp with all its rich history. A short hike to and from the English Camp will earn you a really nice Historic Trails Patch. A longer 15 mile hike between the English and American Camps will earn you a really nice Historic Trails Medal.
Camp Bogardus can be used in so many ways. Structures include multiple campsites, a parade field, an activity shelter, a Scout Lodge, a raised stage for campfire events, a blacksmith forge, Frisbee Golf, a tomahawk range, an archery range, a shooting range, a zipline, monkey rope bridge, lumberjack sawing competition, multiple fire bowls, covered group area with wood stove and Propane BBQ grill, a teepee, an orienteering course, a surveying course, knot tying stations, croquet, foosball, horseshoe pits, COPE Course, boardgames and so much more. And since the San Juan Islands are so popular for biking, this makes for a great stop or even a headquarters for a big biking event.
