Winter Sleep Gear Accessories 

Sleeping Hat

• Beanie hat or other insulated hat

Clean Dry Socks

• Never go to bed with wet socks or boots on

• If it's really cold, you should dry off feet before bed and put on a pair of dry clean socks

• This will keep your feet warmer at night

• Your feet are also ready to go if you have to put your boots on and leave your shelter

• In extreme cold environments, you will need insulated booties

Extra Layers of Clothing

• If your bag is inadequate to protect you against the cold, wear extra clothing to bed

• Roll up jacket to use as pillow - it will be warm in the morning and is already in your bag

Tarp

• 6x8 Tarp found in hardware and big-box stores

• Use as waterproof ground cloth

  • Protects gear from melted snow

  • Protects gear from sinking into snow and disappearing until summer

• Many other uses

  • Emergency shelter or sled

  • Use as tarp to cover gear and protect it from snow

  • Pulk cover/burrito

  • Use as hasty waterproof/windproof blanket

Shortie

• Small section of closed-cell foam

• Use to sit on, stand on, place pot on or added to main pad for additional layer of insulation
