Troop 60 > Activities > High Adventure

Troop 60 prides ourselves as being the High Adventure Troop for the Mount Baker Council.  We have a dedicated Rotating High Adventure Program with a 50 Miler Award earned annually.  This gives our Scouts a real challenge they can plan for and work up towards.  High Adventure isn't easy.  It requires a lot of planning, training and the final event will put Scouts to the test.  The experience is of course memorable and often life changing.

Scouts int Troop 60 need to be 13 years of age and have earned the rank of Scout First-Class to participate in High Adventure.

Rotating High Adventure Program

Our High Adventure program rotates through Hike, Bike, Canoe adventures each year to keep things new and interesting.  One year, the High Adventure Program will be Backpacking- with at least 50 miles of Hiking/Backpacking. The next year will be a long distance Cycling trip.  The following year will be a Canoe adventure.  And subsequent year, we rotate back to Backpacking.

Winter Skills Adventure Program

The Winter Skills Adventure Program has been running for over 50 years now.  It is staff by members of Troop 60 and our troop attends this program annually.  It teaches you the basics of winter camping and an overnight field activity puts those skills to the test when we build our own snow shelters and sleep in them.

The classroom portion of this program is open to everyone, while the overnighter is reserved for experienced Scouts and Adults strong enough to move the snow blocks needed to build a shelter.  Scouts who attend this are expected to lead future snow outings for Troop 60.

High Adventure Training

High Adventure requires special training, depending on the type of outing.  Troop 60 is lucky enough to have Adult Trainers in our Troop able to teach and certify our Adventure Crews.

We are happy to work with anyone interested in High Adventure.  We are happy to spend extra time training individuals and we'll do our best to accommodate busy schedules.  That said, Scouts and Adults unable to complete train-up or who are unable to demonstrate the ability to perform required skills prior to High Adventure will not be able to participate in High Adventure for that year.  This is for their own safety and the safety of the crew.
