Day 5 PreTour Golden Circle 

Date: July 11-12 , 2024

Day 5

We made it to the Golden Circle.  A night indoors with laundry was really nice.  The main focus for the day was Whitewater Rafting.  We filled the rest of the the day with obligatory Golden Circle sites that had to be seen.  Day 5 included:

• Gullfoss ("Golden Falls")

• Drumboddsstaðir -Drumbó River Base - White water rafting 

• Lunch at Efstidalur II - barn café

• Faxafoss - waterfall hike

• Geysir - thermal springs and geysers

Gullfoss ("Golden Falls")

We have seen our fill of waterfalls by now, but this one was epic.  We got soaked from the rain and mostly from the cloud of mist that surrounds the falls.

Most of our crew have gone whitewater rafting in the past, but not in Iceland.  Running glacial whitewater rapids while surrounded by wild rock formation for the land of Fire and Ice was pretty thrilling.

Lunch at Efstidalur II 

We stopped at Efstidalur II for lunch.  This is a cattle farm where they make their own dairy and beef dishes.  Their famous beef stew was out and it took a while to make a new batch of soup.  This was a long wait after a long day, but was worth the wait.  We finished off lunch with Efstidalur's famous icecream.

Geysir

After several days of non-stop exploring and a long day with a whitewater trip, the group was pretty exhausted.  One of our adult leaders passed out in the car and had to be driving home.
